Back in September, I had a chance to cover the American Lung Association’s (ALA) kickoff for their Massachusetts Healthy Air Campaign. The event was held at the Codman Square Community Health Center in Dorchester, MA, with Jeffrey Seyler, President and CEO of the American Lung Association hosting a number of partners and volunteers working to protect the Clean Air Act.

One of those volunteers was Rachael Murphy, mother to 5 year old Mia, who suffers from asthma. As part of the press conference the ALA was holding, Rachael shared some details about Mia’s struggle with asthma, and how it impacts Rachael as a mother. It was a very open and emotional speech, moving everyone in the audience. Considering Rachael introduced herself right at the start as someone who is uncomfortable with public speaking, she offered an incredibly moving and compelling speech on the importance of clean air. The video is a short, 2 minute clip derived from her 10 minute talk.
