It’s been a while since I’ve posted an update on the “Life in a Day” film. This is the Ridley Scott-produced film, directed by Kevin Macdonald (One Day in September, The Last King of Scotland) that was shot on a single day by people from all over the world. The user-generated, feature-length documentary was assembled with the help of 24 co-directors, 80,000 user-submitted video clips, and 4,500 hours of raw footage, all filmed on July 24, 2010.

I was one of the many who submitted footage that day, making it past a number of selection rounds, but only making it onto the DVD bonus material (so I was told by the producers) instead of the final film. Well on November 8th, “Life in a Day” will be released on DVD and Blu-ray, offering footage from unused submissions, interviews with Joe Walker and Kevin Macdonald, and commentary by the director and editor.

In addition, the entire film is being streamed on YouTube, where the whole event began a little over a year ago. If you’ve got 90 minutes, I encourage you to watch the film. It’s beautifully assembled considering the variety of footage the editors had to work with that captures the essence of what life was like on July 24, 2010
